Ned Scaduto
Head Coach
Appointed Head Coach in 2002, Ned inherited a team struggling through many seasons of
mediocrity, hoping to bring the program to a level of respectability. After suffering
through back to back losing seasons, hard work would pay off as the Southeastern Regional
Hawks brought home the school's first ever state title in any sport as they defeated the
Hyde Park Blue Stars, 13-0, in last season's Division 4 EMass Super Bowl. Ned was also
recognized by his peers as he was voted Coach of the Year in the Mayflower League.
From his many years as an assistant with the Apponequet Pop Warner to his many seasons
patrolling the sidelines at Southeastern as both as assistant and defensive coordinator,
Ned has developed the knowledge to be successful while developing a genuine love of the
game. It is this knowledge and love of the game that he works to instill into each and
every player.
Ned enters his 30th year of teaching at Southeastern as he heads the school's adult
education HVAC program. Outside of football, Ned is also the school's head varsity
baseball coach. In his spare time Ned is an avid follower of football and baseball and
somehow finds time to golf and play softball.
Bill Clifford
Defensive Coordinator, Defensive Backs
Bill, or as the players affectionately refer to as "Coach Cliff", enters the fourth
year of his second stint with the Hawks. He previously coached the Hawks from 1988-1992.
Before coaching at Southeastern, Clifford was a member of the Bridgewater State College
coaching staff from 1968-1975. His stint at Bridgewater State College was preceded by
four seasons as a player for the Bears and two seasons at Brockton High School.
Last season, with Clifford making the calls, the Southeastern defense would prove to be
the toughest in the conference. The Hawks defense was tops in scoring defense and allowed
only two backs to reach the century mark in rushing. The dominance of the Hawks defense
was never more evident than in last season's Division 4 EMass Super Bowl. Boston South
champions, the Hyde Park Blue Stars, would struggle all night as they gained a mere 39
yards on 33 plays and had two passes picked off along the way.
Bill is currently retired after teaching in the Brockton School System from 1968-2005.
John Sawyer
Offensive Coordinator, Running Backs, Linebackers
John was hired during Scaduto's first year at the helm and is now in his third season
as a member of the Hawks staff. After four seasons of playing football at North Attleboro
High School, a powerhouse during his playing time, John went on to play football at
Framingham State College. John proved his worth early on, impressing Scaduto to name
him the Hawks Offensive Coordinator in just his first season.
Last season, the Hawks offense averaged nearly 300 yards per game and lead the conference
in scoring. Against an extremely talented Hyde Park team, the Boston South league
champions, the Hawks offense was held in check for most of the game, but still managed
over 270 yards of offense and two touchdowns to bring home the victory.
Outside of football, John is a Physical Education teacher in the town of Marshfield and
in his spare time enjoys boating and fishing.
Jeff Cziska
Offensive Linemen
Jeff enters his second season as a member of the Hawks coaching staff following a
two year hiatus from coaching. His previous coaching experience includes four seasons
at Old Colony Voc-Tech and two seasons at New Bedford Voc-Tech. Jeff was a three year
letter winner in football at New Bedford Voc-Tech and went on to play college football
at UMass Boston. Unfortunately, his career was cut short during his second season at
UMass after sustaining a severe neck injury.
Mike Merrick
Special Teams Coordinator, Quarterbacks, Receivers
Mike enters his first season as a member of the Hawks coaching staff after serving as
Head Coach at Holbrook High School over the last three seasons. Before being named Head
Coach he was a member of the Holbrook staff as an assistant for seven seasons and
coached the Randolph/Holbrook Blue Devils for another twenty years. During his time with
the Blue Devils, he helped lead them to three Pop Warner Championships. As a high school
coach he has helped develop sound football players with many going on to have excellent
careers at both the college and semi-pro ranks. Mike began his playing career in the
Randolph Pop Warner program, moved on to play at Milton Academy and ended his playing
career after playing four seasons at Blue Hills Regional.
Outside of football, Merrick works for the Norfolk County Sheriff's Department and also
finds time to coach baseball. In his leisure time he enjoys lifting weights and fishing.
Derek Nichols
Head Freshmen Coach, Conditioning Coach
Derek enters his second season as a member of the Hawks coaching staff following a
long career at the Pop Warner level. During his 17 year tenure with the Taunton Pop
Warner program he served as Head Coach for 10 years, Vice-President for two and helped
his teams and players at all levels enjoy a great deal of success, winning numerous division
championships along the way. Many of his former players have gone on to have excellent
high school careers at both Taunton High School and Bristol-Plymouth Regional High School.
As a player, Derek enjoyed a phenomenal career throughout high school and into college.
At Oliver Ames High School he played tailback and cornerback for four season, rushing
for over 1000 yards each season. Upon graduation he played for one season at Maine
Central Institute, then the University of Maine for three more seasons as a tailback.
When Derek is not coaching he finds time to get a few hours in at work. A Class A
driver, owner and operator, he makes daily runs to Maryland to make deliveries for a
major retailer. If that were not enough, Derek also finds time for weight lifting and
and building muscle cars.
Matt Letourneau
Volunteer Assistant Coach
Matt enters his second season as a member of the Hawks coaching staff following a
stellar career with the Hawks. After playing three seasons of Pop Warner football,
Letourneau quickly made an impact at Southeastern as he started at quarterback for all
four of his seasons. During his last two seasons he was named a Mayflower League All-Star.
Matt currently attends Dean College where he played football last season and is currently
playing semi-pro football for the Brockton Bucs.
Balancing his roles as a player, coach and student, he also works as a lifeguard.
In his spare time, Matt enjoys lifting weights and playing the drums.
Michael Clavin
Volunteer Assistant Coach
Michael enters his first season as a member of the Hawks coaching staff after being
away from the game for several years. After playing Pop Warner football, Clavin went
on to play football at Old Colony Voc-Tech, where he was coached by present Hawks
coach Jeff Cziska. Despite weighing just 150 pounds, Michael was a force on the field,
playing offensive tackle, center, linebacker and defensive tackle. In 2001, six points
would be all that separated him and his team from representing the Maylower League in
the Super Bowl that season, as the Cougars dropped a heart breaking 14-8 loss to the
South Shore Vikings.
Michael has been employed since his senior year in high school by Young Electric
Service in Taunton and hopes to get his Massachusetts Electrician's License some time
next year. Despite working exhausting hours, Michael still finds time to lift weights
in his spare time and still loves watching a good game of football.
